Foster and Adoptive Parent Dinners
Parenting can be hard. Parenting children who come from a background of trauma can be especially hard. Isolation, frustration, and burnout are real issues foster and adoptive parents face. Our monthly dinners are a chance for parents to connect with others who are walking the same path and to share their experiences and stories. If you would like to be a financial sponsor for one of our monthly dinners, please contact us.
Clothing Closet
The clothing closet at the foster care resource center is our most used program! Families are constantly in need of clothing for new kids who enter their home, as well as children who are constantly growing and changing sizes. We provide clothing, shoes, baby gear, bedding, and more to foster and adoptive families on a weekly basis. You can click HERE to learn more about the clothing closet. We also welcome volunteers to help at the resource center!
Monthly DHR Visitation Room Cleaning
We assemble a team of volunteers once a month to clean and organize the Mobile County DHR family visitation rooms. These rooms are where families spend time with their children who are in foster care. Because these rooms have many children in them every day, they quickly become disorganized and dirty. We'd love for you to join us on the second Monday of each month as we help make sure these families have a nice place to spend time together.
Foster Parents' Night Out
We are looking for churches in Mobile County and Baldwin County to provide a Friday or Saturday night respite event for foster and adoptive families. Your church provides the childcare and a meal for the kids while parents have an evening to connect, take care of errands, or even get caught up on laundry. This is so helpful to our families and the kids love it. Contact us to get your church on the 2021 calendar!
New to Care Bags and Meals
When a child enters foster care, they are often in need of basic essentials like toiletries, clothing, and more. We provide new to care bags (also called Journey Bags) to children as they move into a new home. We love to include a little something special to remind them they are loved! We also try to include a meal or snacks for the family who is adjusting to a new child in their home. Something as simple as a meal can make those first crazy days a little less stressful! If you receive a new placement or welcome a new child into your home, give us a call!
Trauma-Informed Parent Trainings
We are working on providing training resources to parents. We would love to help put on a retreat or conference in the near future! If your church or organization might be interested in partnering with us, please let us know.
More to Come...
We have big dreams for how Fostering Together Gulf Coast can support local foster and adoptive families. We would love to talk with you about additional ideas for support activities, trainings, retreats, and more. Use the Contact Us page to get in touch with our team. Let's dream together!
